Harmony series II - "Shape of Direction - United State ” “Harmony II - Shape of Direction” is a two part installations that addresses my artistic and personal history. The current display is the second part of the installations that referencing my artistic "shadow" in United State. The choice of using the Stereo image- installation was to re-create the piece through the virtual environment of stereopsis. The main intention was to bring the virtual illusion of my journey in United State to my China's audiences. Connecting the on between the actual piece in Milwaukee, United State. The shape of the installation is a silhouette of my family name 'Mah' in Chinese character, which symbolized my family tradition. It represents my perception of future, which I believed lay upon the understanding of the past. Moving forward to the future to me is by walking backward looking at my shadow that indicates the direction and source of the light (future). Therefore, the shadow of my last name, the order of various painting styles, and the nature illustrate how the past influence my future (my artistic development). Stereo installation - UWM (2006) |
